Nothing Beats Working From Home.
Well, that's all well and good. I bet there are thousands of us, who are retired, or just 'at home' parents, or students or at home most of the time for any number of reasons. Maybe - having tried for ages to find the right job - just want to do something for themselves? Well, something really has come to our aid. The internet. The world wide web, this amazing thing that we had never heard of twenty five years ago. There are huge moguls out there, great gurus who are (let us be honest) either huge liars or way out of our league. All telling us how much money they are making on the web!! I honestly belief the former. Unless they are simply carrying on to the web what has been a thriving business concern for many, many years before. Perhaps, before I go any further, I should tell you a wee bit about myself. I am retired, live alone (with Daisy my cat) and am certainly no longer a young woman. I retired from the theatre some 12 years ago when my dear Giorgio became so ill and it was not possible to work and care for him. Then my dear friend, Francis - pictured here - died, and I just had to do something to occupy those lonely hours. Now on to the subject in hand. Working from home. First of all decide what you like most of all to do on the web. Yes, I know, look for information. That is the answer 99% of people give when asked this question. And why not? The information highway is what the Internet was marketed as. And no matter what I may have tried in the past - after all I have been working from home and trying out many way to do this for quite a few years - I have always returned to one major thing. BOOKS. And truly this is the main topic or subject I am going to recommend for making a pleasant and profitable way to add to the coffers at home. I will be showing you a few individual items, and a bigger way to cash in on a larger share altogether by doing just what I do. A bit later for that. There are many ways you can start of course. You may buy individual e-books, which actually have the re-sell rights given with your purchase. Or you may find that you have excellent hidden talents yourself and can write on a subject dear to you, like gardening, antiques, Theatre or films, travelling, music. I have actually done a few of these myself. And it has been marvellous to find out that I can research and write on many subjects, publish and then wait for some results. I remembered many school books from my childhood, well out of copyright and re-presented them under my editorship because they were now in the Public Domain. This alone is a wonderful subject to peruse. And a big subject in itself - so I am not going to dwell upon it here, but if it appeals to you just google 'public domain' and see what comes up!
The thing to bear in mind is that there is a place for every single subject under the sun and that whatever your own special hobby, weakness or fad, is right now, you can be sure there is a book about it somewhere! And there's certainly someone looking for that book right now. Just remember the size of the Internet is the size of the world and as far as customers go the world is your oyster! One thing I learned from selling books on Amazon from my own bookshelf (to make room for new ones) was that the really best sellers were definitely not novels, not normal books at all. All my specialised books got sold easily, things like jewellery making, gardening, dressmaking, home decorating, dog training, flower arranging, baby knitting ideas. Everything we class as 'useful'. This is the kind of thing to give you loads of ideas of how to start, and you will begin to develop your own ideas and soon you will be off and away. A word you will hear a lot of course is 'niche' a little French word, mutilated by Americans to 'nitch'. Meaning just a small corner. A small corner for you to get busy in! It might be a sport, such as golf, Golf Basics or home-baking, travel, dress designing, ways to go green, fitness, drawing, painting or collecting heaven knows what. Then - on the other hand, you might be rather more business orientated, and you might prefer to offer advice in, for example, ways of coping with the recession.
